Social Entrepreneurship

SYLLABUS
slides
live discussion
In this course, we refer to a range of business classifications that blend social, ecological, and financial value between the public and private sectors. The course identifies unique opportunities for the sector, explore organizational and management issues specific to social enterprises, review the history of social enterprise structures, and critically review their impacts. We will also consider the value of the "entrepreneurial" approach, including attitudes towards risk tolerance, experimentation, and problem-solving.

All Saints W Broadway Commons
West Broadway Commons is a mixed-use, mixed-income apartment building with 110 suites. Two main floor commercial retail spaces are available for lease. Review demographic and development opportunities to provide a Social Enterprise business case for one of the two units. The total commercial space is 2,292 sq ft. and includes access to the vestibule and washrooms. The commercial space will be divided. See the floorplan and other information.

Inuit Art Gallery
QAUMAJUQ (Inuit Art Gallery) will bring many visitors to Winnipeg and the downtown area. Adjacent to this new national treasure there are 3 commercial spaces available to lease at the base of 290 Colony which is a mixed use, mixed income development with 119 apartments. Floor plans and further information.

Active public space (Colony-Portage)

Active public places and spaces are an integral aspect of any healthy downtown. Colony Street between Portage and St. Mary has potential to become a more pedestrian oriented space between the residential and commercial developments on the west side of the street and the Art Gallery and QAUMAJUQ on the east side of the street. The commercial growth in this district of new businesses and housing will require parking, while the goal of the district is to prioritize pedestrians over cars. Considering economic, cultural, social, municipal and development factors, to provide a Social Enterprise Business Case that would contribute to activating the street.
