Final Paper Guide

Final paper - guide

The purpose of an essay is to educate your readers in a way that is engaging.
See articles on the following websites for examples:

  • Aeon.co
  • The Economist
Objective
Write an article that speaks directly to your audience and highlights the most important information. Let the words flow smoothly and ensure word choices are not overly cumbersome.

  • Identify a substantive issue with contemporary interest
  • Identify the issue’s historical relevance
  • Consider the involvement of both state and non-state actors

Tips

Content is definitely king, however, you cannot just throw a few words together and hope that you come up with something credible that your readers will enjoy and relate to. Consider the following:

  • ensure your introduction and conclusion are clear
  • long paragraphs can be intimidating
  • vary sentence structure (short/long)
  • break into sections with headings
  • write/edit for W5: who, what, when, where, why
  • double-check spelling and grammar
